W League to welcome 10 new expansion markets in August and September

TAMPA, Fla. – Following last week’s announcement of its tenth founding member, the USL W League is poised for a month of continued expansion. The League is expected to welcome at least 10 new clubs throughout the month of August and into early September, progressing rapidly towards its projected membership target of 30 teams for its inaugural season in 2022.

“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming these new clubs to the W League over the next few weeks,” said USL W League Director of Operations Betsy Haugh. “With each additional club, we continue to advance our mission of growing the women’s game and providing more opportunities for players, coaches, executives, and fans.”

The USL W League introduced eight founding clubs during its official announcement back in June, including Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, Greenville Triumph SC, Hartford Athletic, Kaw Valley FC, Minnesota Women’s Soccer, Queensboro FC, South Georgia Tormenta FC, and Washington D.C. (led by D.C. United’s ownership group). On June 23, the USL announced the addition of a W League team in Spokane that is set to kick off play as early as 2022.

To begin its most recent string of announcements, the W League welcomed North Carolina-based club Asheville City SC last Thursday.

As the USL W League’s footprint continues to grow, the League is welcoming fan feedback via its first-ever W League fan survey. The survey is available through August 31 and covers topics such as soccer fandom and viewing habits, general fandom of women’s sports, and fan opinions about the new USL W League.
