Internship Offers Students Professional Experience in the Sports Industry

GREENVILLE, S.C. - In 2019, Greenville Triumph SC launched the Legacy Internship program offering students of Legacy Early College the opportunity to gain professional experience in the front office of a professional soccer club. Through a five-year partnership with Legacy Early College, the club has committed to taking on one student intern for the fall, spring and summer semesters in an effort to provide valuable front office experience to high school aged community members.

“The ability to participate in an internship is an increasingly important aspect of the sports and entertainment industry,” said Megan Kolak, Vice President of Partnership Marketing and Community Relations for Greenville Triumph SC. “This program allows the chosen Legacy scholars a chance to receive professional experience, knowledge of how the workplace functions and most importantly mentorship. These students also develop a professional network which they can use now and throughout their careers.”

The Legacy Internship was formed as a part of a five-year partnership with Legacy Early College, the current home of Greenville Triumph SC’s men’s senior team and future home of the recently announced W League team. Each semester, four to six students from the junior and senior classes of Legacy Early College are selected for the interview process, which sees Kolak team up with the principals from tenth to twelfth grade and the career services director to select one participant who will become the Legacy intern for the semester. From there, the selected intern is integrated into Greenville’s day to day operations to learn directly from front office professionals.

Through the internship with Greenville Triumph, students from Legacy Early College have the opportunity to see how a professional sports team is run, allowing them to experience the work force first-hand while preparing them for life after high school graduation and the career exploration process. Not only are participants compensated for their work, they also gain invaluable experience working alongside sports professionals that they may not normally have access to.

“The internship with Greenville Triumph SC was life-changing,” said Alejandro Jaramillo, former Legacy intern. “The Greenville staff helped me build my confidence to the level where I execute strong initiative and leadership skills. The staff created a memorable experience.”
