Illinois-based club becomes the 20th confirmed participant for the W League’s inaugural season in 2022

CHICAGO, Ill. - The United Soccer League (USL) today announced Chicago City SC as the latest club to join the USL W League. The Illinois-based club, which also joined USL League Two for the 2022 season, is the first club to join the W League out of Illinois and continues to grow the league’s footprint in preparation for the start of the league’s inaugural season.

“This is a huge step for our organization and for women's soccer in the Chicagoland area,” said  Nick Mulvaney, Founder and CEO of Chicago City SC. “The USL has created a true player pathway for women in the game with the introduction of USL W League and USL Super League. We are excited to continue the growth of the women's game throughout our communities.”

Founded in 2013, Chicago City SC prides itself on professionalism, passion and dedication to providing a unique soccer experience within the Chicago community. The club fosters a culture that nurtures intellectual, cultural, social and physical development through soccer to create an innovative experience that provides opportunities for players and the community to inspire, enhance, and support long term development.

In joining the W League, Chicago City will continue its mission of providing enhanced pathways for growth in the women’s game. Through its long-standing success in the women’s game, as evidenced by multiple professional player contracts in Europe, Chicago City continues to build its reputation as an elite program for player development.

“We’re excited to welcome Chicago City SC to the USL W League and expand our league’s footprint into this great city,” said USL W League Director of Operations, Betsy Haugh. “Chicago City is a great addition to the league, and we look forward to working with them to grow the women’s game.”

With over 1,000 players in the youth organization, Chicago City joins the league with the goal of providing a women’s pathway starting with the Super Y League to the USL Academy and up to the pre-professional ranks with the W League. With player and personal development at the center of Chicago City’s programming, the club will now supply players, coaches and staff with  a direct pathway from youth to pre-professional all within the USL ecosystem.
