Wisconsin-based club set to begin play in women’s pre-professional league in 2022

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The United Soccer League (USL) today announced Green Bay Glory as the latest club to join the USL W League. Green Bay Glory is the first club to join the W League out of the state of Wisconsin and will compete in the League’s inaugural season in 2022.

"The Green Bay Glory is excited to join the USL W League in its inaugural season,” said Melissa Cruz-Cuene, Co-Owner of Green Bay Glory. “This partnership aligns with our values and the mission we have already established in our community, and we look forward to bringing opportunities to our players and community on a grander scale."

Founded in 2019, Green Bay Glory seeks to provide a platform for players to grow as athletes while also instilling a life-long love for the game. The team was formed by passionate leaders in the soccer community with a shared mission to provide an avenue for female athletes to create glorious moments both on and off the field. The club hopes to use its on-field product and dedication to its community to bring soccer fans together to create and fuel a passion for the beautiful sport.

By establishing more pre-professional playing opportunities for soccer players in Green Bay and its surrounding cities, the club will foster personal growth and development of life skills by engaging its athletes in soccer while simultaneously providing a safe, healthy and positive playing environment. Through membership in the W League, Green Bay Glory will further its commitment to the growth of the women’s game by offering athletes a competitive gameday experience and a direct pathway to the professional game through the USL’s robust women’s pathway.

"We have been impressed with the USL W League's operations, professionalism, and enthusiasm for our organization and are excited to collaborate with other teams to not only grow the women's game but also inspire people of all ages to find success through sport," said Kerry Geocaris, Green Bay Glory Co-Owner.

Beyond player growth and development, Green Bay Glory is committed to counselling young players in the community to bring awareness and understanding to the pathway leading to professional soccer. The club dedicates its time to connecting aspiring youth players with their local role models to build confidence and provide insight into the opportunities available to them within their own community. Green Bay Glory will also use its platform as a USL W League club to promote long-term gender equity and female empowerment in their community.

“From our first conversations with the Glory ownership group, we were excited to see how well their mission and vision aligned with ours here at the W League” said Betsy Haugh, USL Director of Women’s Soccer Operations. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the League and look forward to working with them to grow the women’s game and provide more opportunities for players on and off the field.”
