Indy Eleven stays on top, but Christos FC explodes to #2

Week 3 of the USL W League’s inaugural season is in the books. Now, 35 of the 44 W League teams have taken the pitch at least once this season. Indy Eleven’s dominating performance over the weekend cemented the team at #1 for the second week in a row, but high-scoring Christos FC and Greenville Liberty are close behind.

The top spot in the W League rankings remains unchanged from last week to this week. Indy Eleven has dominated this season, scoring 11 goals and only allowing two. Katie Soderstrom has contributed to more than half of Indy’s goals–netting five goals and providing an assist. Indy looks to continue its undefeated campaign against AFC Ann Arbor this weekend.

Christos FC opened its season with a 6-0 victory over Patuxent Football Athletics this past week. A few days later, the club held off a late rally from Eagle FC to secure its second victory in as many matches. Christos’ Bailey DeSmit has bagged four goals and added an assist in the club’s opening two matches. Looking to continue its hot start, Christos travels to McLean Soccer for a midweek match up on Wednesday, May 25.

Greenville Liberty SC

Week 4: @ North Carolina Fusion
Greenville Liberty SC secured its second victory in as many games when the club took on NC Courage U23 on Friday. The Liberty found the back of the net six times, with Caroline Conti recording a hattrick and teammates Chidubem Dike, Christian Brathwaite and Carly Thatcher accounting for the other three goals. Greenville looks to stay hot when the club travels to North Carolina Fusion on Wednesday, May 25.

Kaw Valley FC

Week 4: @ St. Louis Lions
Kaw Valley opened its season with a 3-1 victory against the St. Louis Lions. The balanced attacking saw three different players find the back of the net for Kaw Valley. Hailey Palmer opened the scoring in the 16’ with Raena Childers not only tallying a goal in the 72’ but also providing the assist to teammate Adah Anderson in the 76’. Kaw Valley will play the Lions again in a midweek match up this Wednesday, May 25.

FC Miami City

Week 4: vs. Tampa Bay United
vs. Miami AC
In the first-ever Miami derby between FC Miami City and Miami AC, things were tied 1-1 at halftime and then Miami City rattled off four goals to Miami AC’s one, bringing the final stat line to 5-2. Claudia Rodrigeuz netted a brace and Vanessa Rodriguez recorded both a goal and assist. Karina Medina and Barbara Murillo rounded out the scoring for FC Miami City. The club will take on Tampa Bay United Wednesday afternoon.

While McLean Soccer did not take the pitch this past weekend, the team’s thrilling come from behind victory is enough to keep them in the Top 10. McLean takes on Christos this Wednesday, May 25. We will wait and see if the club can find that offensive spark for the second match in a row.

AFC Ann Arbor

Week 4: vs Indy Eleven
AFC Ann Arbor started the season with a loss but has since bounced back to win its last two matches – a 3-1 win over Kings Hammer FC and a 3-0 victory over Kalamazoo. While Chole Ricketts won Goal of the Week, Lina Berrah stole the show in the club’s latest outing against Kalamazoo. The Swiss-born Berrah netted two goals, bringing her goal tally of the season up to three. Ann Arbor face unbeaten Indy Eleven Saturday, May 28.

Asheville City SC

@ Wake FC
Asheville City SC opened its season with a 3-0 shutout against the North Carolina Fusion. Asheville struck early with goals in the 13’ and 19’ minutes by Alyssa Frazier and Cami Johnstone respectively. Addison Porter rounded out the scoring for Asheville in the 61’. Asheville City take on the NC Courage U23 Tuesday night in an early week match-up.

Tampa Bay United

Tampa Bay United got in on the action this weekend with its first match of the season on the road against Florida Elite Soccer Academy. The lone goal in the match was scored by Carissa Boeckmann in the 38’ Tampa Bay look to stay perfect when the team meets FC Miami City Wednesday night.

vs FA Euro New York
New Jersey-based Morris Elite SC opened the season with a 2-0 win over AC Connecticut and last weekend played in a tightly contested 0-0 match against the Long Island Rough Riders. Morris Elite looks to secure all three points against the Cedar Stars in the May 25 midweek matchup.
