Joins NBC Sports' Rebecca Lowe to discuss growing professional women’s soccer, Academy and W League pathway

ORLANDO, Fla. – USL Super League President Amanda Vandervort appeared live on Premier League Mornings at Universal City Walk this past weekend. In the segment Amanda spoke with NBC's Rebecca Lowe about the USL Super League's kickoff in 2024, what comes next in preparation for the launch of the professional league and the opportunities the USL is creating for women and girls.

“The USL has 36 men's professional teams, we are currently in over 200 communities, and these are communities that want women's soccer,” said Vandervort. “They're hungry for the women's game, they want to see women's soccer, they want to play women's soccer, they want to work in women's soccer and that’s what we’re building at the USL.”

Recently, the USL unveiled Step Up, the Bold Next Phase in the USL’s Women’s Soccer Strategy which provides a blueprint for the USL to build, operate, and grow the most comprehensive and powerful ecosystem in women’s soccer. It lays out a clear pathway from youth to professional, including the launch of the professional USL Super League, continued expansion of the pre-professional USL W League, and the establishment and growth of the USL Academy for girls.

“We're also building, like you see in England, an entire system,” said Vandervort. “We're going to launch our Academy this summer, our amateur league [USL W League] is expanding from 44 to 65 teams so when we launch the Super League in 2024, we have a full professional system for the development and advancement of women's soccer players.”

With the creation of the Super League, the USL is doubling the number of professional playing opportunities for women in the United States.

“For all the little girls out there, all the women watching, you now can be a professional women's soccer player in this country,” said Vandervort. “There are opportunities for you to be in this game.”
