Portland-based club looks forward to providing new opportunities for local talent

PORTLAND, OR – The USL W League today announced PDX FC as the final expansion club for the 2023 W League season. The club will play in the Northwest Division and the full divisional alignment will be unveiled in the coming days.

"PDX FC is thrilled to add a W League team to our club!” said Luke Babson, PDX FC Founder & Technical Director. “Portland is one of the top soccer cities in the country and there is such a demand to further develop the women's game. It's so exciting to bring this professional pathway and to create opportunities for the next generation of aspiring players."

PDX FC was founded in 2017 and joined USL League 2 in 2021. The club focuses on creating meaningful local partnerships and developing players with a desire to reach their professional goals. PDX FC has a commitment to serve players from diverse backgrounds and to provide equal opportunity to compete in the nation's most competitive playing environments.

In addition to League Two and W League, PDX FC aspires to create a USL Academy program, which in turn will create a complete player pathway that bridges the gap from the youth to professional game.

“After fielding a League Two team the last couple years, we are excited to welcome PDX FC to the W League,” said Joel Nash, VP of Youth and Pre-Professional properties. “PDX FC is going to fit right in with our newly announced west coast clubs, and we’re looking forward to watching hundreds of talented players get opportunities to chase their dreams."

In 2020, the club became community owned, adding 380 shareholders to the ownership structure.
