Detroit's big attendance, Oakland's shutout and more

This weekend fans all over the country were treated to some incredible goals and players were treated to some incredible atmospheres. 

Catch up on a few storylines below and be sure to check when your favorite teams play this week. 

Detroit Shows Up for Le Rogue

In a primetime match under the lights at Keyworth Stadium, an incredible 4,743 fans attended Detroit City FC’s opening match where Le Rogue played host to interstate rivals Flint City AFC. The two sides battled back and forth but neither were able to break the deadlock, ending in a 0-0 draw. 

Double the (shutout) Wins in Oakland

Oakland Soul SC and USL Championship side Oakland Roots SC hosted a double header Saturday evening with over 5,800 fans watching as Soul welcomed the Olympic Club to the Town. Kaytlin Brinkman slotted home the winning goal in the 63rd minute, with Soul taking home the 1-0 victory. The Roots also blanked its opponent and secured a 3-0 victory over Orange County SC.

All Level in Asheville

Asheville City SC got on the board early when Riley Thompson capitalized on a goalkeeping error by NC Fusion’s keeper in just the third minute of play. USL Academy Cup standout Aaryn Gabriel led the charge by drawing and burying a penalty in the 31st minute, leveling the match. After another hard-fought and intense 60 minutes of play, the scoreline would stand with Asheville City and NC Fusion splitting the points.

This week we have more than a dozen teams kicking off their 2023 season! Some of those include Morris Elite SC, Paisley Athletic, McLean Soccer, Eagle FC, Birmingham Legion SC and California Storm. Be sure to follow these clubs and the W League across social platforms to stay up to date.
