The 2023 regular season has come to a thrilling close and the last month of play featured some incredible on-field performances which helped propel teams to playoff berths.  

The 11 players below were some of the W League’s top performers between the last month of W League action (June 7-July 2). The only player to be selected in both May and June is Christos FC forward Baylee DeSmit who has tallied 9 goals in her teams last seven matches.

GK: Taiana Tolleson, Tennessee SC - Tennessee SC pulled off an amazing feat securing a playoff spot on the final day of the season after having an incredible turnaround, due in large part to Tolleson between the sticks. The former Vanderbilt Commodore started seven matches in June for TSC, securing five shutouts. TSC started the season 0-2-1, but then finished the final nine matches 8-0-1, securing the top spot in the South Central Division.  

D: Laurel Ansbrow, NC Courage U23 - The Wake Forest Deacon anchored a strong NC Courage backline that won their final six matches and only allowed three goals. The Courage secured the top of the South Atlantic Division, with Ansbrow’s stalwart defensive skills playing a strong role in that feat. Ansbrow and the Courage finished the regular season 11-0-1 with a plus 39 goal differential. 

D: Madison Cox, Tampa Bay United - The former Grand Canyon Lope and Puerto Rican National team defender has been a veteran leader for Tampa Bay United’s defensive unit, posting the lowest goals allowed in the league with just one goal conceded all season. Cox also contributed a goal in the offensive half for the TBU side, who finished with an undefeated 12-0-0 record during the regular season.  

D: Juliana Ryan, Morris Elite SC - A key piece to Morris Elite’s solid defense, the UMass Minuteman Ryan contributed two goals in addition to her incredible defensive work, helping lead her team to only allow five goals against all season. Ryan and Morris Elite finished the regular season at the top of the Metropolitan Division with a 10-1-1 record. 

M: Nia Chrisopher, Eagle FC - Eagle FC battled their way to the top of the Mid Atlantic Division, thanks in part to the large role the attacking minded Towson Tiger and Bermuda international played in Eagle’s offense. Christopher tallied three of her seven total goals in Eagle’s final seven matches. The Mechanicsburg-based club finished the regular season with a record of 11-1-0 and is hosting the Eastern Conference Playoffs. 

M: Addie Chester, Indy Eleven - Indy Eleven cemented their place at the top of the Valley Division, where the club finished the regular season 8-1-1 with only three goals against and 40 goals scored. The Louisville Cardinal has been a consistent playmaker in the midfield for the Girls in Blue, contributing five assists and tallied one of her three goals in the final match of the season. 

M: Hannah Adler, Minnesota Aurora FC - The former Denver Pioneer and member of the US Beach National Team has been a driving force in the midfield for an electric Minnesota Aurora squad. Adler bagged an impressive eight goals in seven matches during the tail end of Aurora's regular season. Adler and Minnesota finished the regular season with a perfect 12-0-0 record and boasted the best goal differential in the league with +56. 

M: Kennedy Berschel, Chicago City SC - Wearing the captain's armband for Chicago City this season, Berschel has been a steady and commanding presence in the midfield. The Illini midfielder contributed two goals in Chicago’s final eight matches and led her team to an 8-3-1 record in the regular season, along with a wild-card playoff berth. 

F: Baylee DeSmit, Christos FC - The Loyola Greyhound has been unstoppable all season-long in the Mid Atlantic Division, finishing the regular season with an unbelievable 21 total goals scored, with nine coming in Christos’ final seven matches in the month on June. DeSmit’s unstoppable eye for goal propelled her team to a 9-3-0 record and a wild-card playoff berth. 

F: Nadia Gomes, SF Glens SC - The leading goal scorer for the Glens, five of Gomes’ 12 goals this season came during their final six matches of the regular season in the month on June. The former BYU Cougar has been a veteran leader on the talented Glens’ squad and has led her team to a 10-1-1 record and the top of the extremely competitive NorCal Division. 

F: Mariah Lee, Oly Town FC - Lee’s veteran experience and leadership helped steer a strong Oly Town squad to the top of the Northwest Division and the number one seed in the Western Conference with an unbeaten 8-0-2 record. The Stanford and Wake Forest alum tallied six goals with half of them coming in the last five matches of the regular season.
