The USL W League announced on Tuesday two more of the league’s 2023 regular season awards. Minnesota Aurora defender Tianna Harris has been awarded Defender of the Year after an incredible undefeated season and Tennessee SC forward Katie Shea Collins has won the 2023 Assists Champion.
Newcomer Tianna Harris had an incredible season with Minnesota Aurora FC, helping lead the club to an undefeated regular season (12-0-0). Harris’ tenacious defense played a vital role in the club only allowing four goals against.
Harris, a former Kent State standout and 2022 Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree, pushed up in the attack for the Aurora, adding four goals and two assists during the regular season. Harris’ biggest goal of the season was probably her game-winning goal in the club’s hotly contested matchup against Rochester FC.
Tennessee SC forward Katie Shea Collins recorded a league-high seven assists in 12 matches. Collins proved to be a huge piece of the puzzle in TSC’s incredible turnaround. Last season TSC recorded only two wins and this season, behind a strong showing by Collins, TSC won their division and clinched a playoff berth with an 8-2-2 regular season record.
Collins, a South Carolina Gamecock commit, tallied a league-high seven assists during the regular season. Additionally, Collins scored nearly half of TSC’s goals during the regular season, recording 14 of the team’s 30 goals. Kaite recorded four braces and a hattrick during regular season play.
