High-caliber W League talent ready for prime-time collegiate match up

This Saturday two of the most competitive women’s soccer programs in the nation, third ranked Stanford will host tenth ranked Duke. Aside from both being ranked nationally in the Top 10, each team features a handful of players that competed in the 2023 USL W League season. Stanford has nine W League athletes, who competed across three different clubs - United PDX, Cal Storm and W League semifinalists San Fransisco Glens SC, while Duke boasts 13 players who competed across four different clubs – Christos FC, Palm City Americanas, SF Glens and the 2023 W League Finalists NC Courage U23.

Stanford standout and U.S. Youth National Team regular Elise Evans played a large role in the Glens’ extremely successful first W League season. Evans will face her Glens teammate Elle Piper who is a staple in Duke’s defense. Evans and Piper combined for one of the most lethal backlines in the W League this season. Stanford players recorded 2,003 minutes in the W League this season.

On the opposite coast, six NC Courage U23 athletes had an exciting summer as they competed side by side with USWNT legend Heather O’Reilly, and traveled to Indy to compete in the 2023 USL W League Final where they came up just short in extra time. Caroline Duffy was a mainstay in goal for Christos FC this season, playing nearly every minute, and Duke teammates and co-captains Maggie Graham and Katie Groff made huge impacts on the field for the Courage. Duke players recorded 5,728 minutes in the W League this season.
