25 W League athletes available in UNC vs Virginia Tech ACC clash

NCAA Division I Conference Play kicks off this weekend

NCAA DI conference play kicks off this Friday and we have our eye on one matchup in particular. The University of North Carolina are set to host Virginia Tech in the first ACC match up of the year. Between the two squads, 25 W League players will be available for selection.  

Notorious women’s soccer powerhouse UNC has 13 W League athletes who competed for seven different clubs during the 2024 season – NC Courage U23, Wake FC, Racing Louisville FC, Long Island Rough Riders, Flint City AFC, Morris Elite SC, and W League champions Indy Eleven. 

UNC freshman and U.S. Youth National Team regular Mia Oliaro made her mark on the 2023 W League season, scoring five goals and tallying an assist over 12 matches for finalists NC Courage U23. Her performance led her to being named the 2023 Young Player of the Year. Over the course of the summer Oliaro competed with UNC and USWNT legend Heather O’Reilly in the W League.

Virginia Tech features 12 W League athletes who competed across six different clubs – Southern Soccer Academy, Northern Virginia FC, Racing Louisville FC, Charlotte Independence, NC Fusion, Wake FC, and McLean Soccer. 

Virginia Tech features five Northern Virginia FC teammates led by Taylor Price who appeared nine times and scored five goals for the Leesburg-based team. As a freshman in 2022, Price appeared and started in 19 matches for the Hokies, scoring eight goals and three assists.
