The inaugural W League season saw dozens of memorable matches, goals and players. Nearly two years later, we’re checking in to see what our 2022 W League stars are up to now: 

Amy Andrews – Durham Women fc

No one made a mark on the inaugural W League season like Amy Andrews. Andrews scored 16 regular season goals and tacked on another three in the postseason to lead South Georgia Tormenta to the first-ever W League Championship. Andrews garnered numerous aways such as the Golden Boot and was voted most Outstanding Player. After her trailblazing year, Andrews signed with Durham Women FC in the Barclays Women’s Championship. In seven league matches, Andrews has scored two goals.  

Chloe Ricketts – Washington Spirit & USYNT 

Chloe Ricketts made headlines when she joined AFC Ann Arbor ahead of their 2022 season at the mere age of 14. The teenager recorded two goals for her club the ensuing season, as she became the youngest goal scorer in W League history. The record-breaking didn’t stop there for the young prodigy. The next year, she signed a contract with NWSL team Washington Spirit, and in July she became the youngest goal scorer in NWSL history—her goal coming in a 4-2 win over NY/NJ Gotham FC. She has also gotten the chance to represent the United States at youth level. She has represented the US at the U-15, U-16, and most recently, U-17 level.  

Sydney Martinez – IK Grand Bodø & Puerto Rico National Team 

Last year, Sydney Martinez starred between the sticks for W League Champions South Georgia Tormenta FC. She won the W League Final MVP, the Golden Glove, and was named in the USL W Best XI. After her trophy-laden year, Martinez took her talents across the pond to Norwegian second division side IK Grand Bodø for their 2023 season. As their starting goalkeeper, Martinez led her team within five points of the promotion play-off and made the league’s team of the week twice. This past April, she made her debut for the Puerto Rican National team, and has since been called up for Gold Cup Qualifiers. 

Emily Madril – Orlando Pride  

During her 2022 stint with Racing Louisville's W League side, Emily Madril scored four goals in nine appearances en-route to being named to the USL W Best XI second team. Now, the defender plays for the NWSL’s Orlando Pride after she was drafted third overall by the team in the 2023 NWSL Draft. She’s become a stalwart defender for her team, starting in all 20 games for the Pride so far this season. Madril played with Tori Hansen, another former W League player, this season with the Pride. 

Jayde Riviere –  Manchester United & Canada national team

Jayde Riviere made four appearances in 2022 for AFC Ann Arbor in their inaugural season. Now, she plies her trade for European giants Manchester United after signing a contract with the English club in January. Due to injury, however, the right back didn’t make her debut for her club until May. During the European offseason, Riviere represented Canada in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The Ontario-born Riviere started at right back in all three of Canada’s games at the tournament.  

Alice Walker – KDZ.EREĞLİ BELEDİYESPOR

With Northern Virginia FC, Alice Walker scored three goals in nine games in 2022 and previously was a graphic designer intern with the USL. The attacker then made a move to Greece, where she played her first minutes as a professional soccer player. After her stint in Greece, Walker signed with a North Macedonian team before making her most recent move to Turkey for club KDZ.EREĞLİ BELEDİYESPOR.

Ruby Grant – BK Häcken & England U23s 

Originally from England, Ruby Grant joined Wake FC in 2022, appearing in nine games and contributing to seven goals in last year’s campaign. This March, she returned to Europe and joined first-division Swedish team BK Häcken on a three-year deal. She has since made 17 appearances for her club side. The same month she made her big move to Sweden, Grant was called up to England’s U23 squad for their matches against Portugal and Belgium. 

Aleigh Gambone – Glasgow City FC

With McLean Soccer in 2022, Aleigh Gambone showed out with seven goals and nine assists in her nine appearances. After the season, the talented forward signed overseas with Fortuna Hjørring in Denmark. She only stayed five months in Denmark before making a move to Scotland with Glasgow City FC this July. With her current club, she was able to score her first professional goal in September in a 5-0 win over Hamilton Academical.  

Riley Tanner – Washington Spirit & Panama national team

Riley Tanner burst onto the W League scene with Midwest United, providing seven assists for the club in their 2022 campaign. She then got her shot at the pros after NWSL team Washington Spirit selected the forward in the third round of the 2023 draft. Mere weeks after the draft, she made her international debut with Panama. She scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Papua New Guinea which ensured Panama’s first-ever qualification to the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The forward went on to represent her nation at the World Cup where she made two appearances against Brazil and Jamaica. 

Treva Aycock – Croatia’s Hadjuk Split

Treva Aycock came into the W League fold in 2022 with Southern Soccer Academy. She notched eight assists during the season, making her the Assists Champion. After the season, she took her goal-providing skills to Portugal, signing with Valadares Gaia in the nation’s first division. Aycock spent one year with the club before signing with Croatia’s Hadjuk Split in September.  

Delaney Graham – Medical School 

Delaney Graham joined NC Courage U23 ahead of its 2022 season. She made five appearances for the team. In 2023, the Washington Spirit drafted the defender 40th overall. However, as she is recovering from knee surgery, she has yet to officially sign with the Spirit. In the meantime, she is currently attending the University of Tennessee medical school.  

Barbara Murillo – LFC Dornbirn & Honduras National Team 

After playing professional soccer in Peru and Colombia, Barbara Murillo joined FC Miami City for their 2022 season. The defender played in ten games, scoring two goals and providing an assist. She then made a move to the Austrian second tier, signing with LFC Dornbirn in February. In June, she helped her club side earn promotion to the first division. Internationally, Murillo has been the captain of the Honduran national team for about two years.
