TAMPA, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2023) - The USL W League today announced three expansion clubs: Boulder County, Colorado International Soccer Academy or CISA, and Flatirons FC. Those three new clubs will join previously announced Northern Colorado Rain to form the Mountain Division. The new division will take the field in the 2024 season.  

"Establishing a new division and expanding the league’s footprint is always exciting," said USL Super League and W League President Amanda Vandervort. "The mountain region is known for producing elite athletes and we look forward to providing female players in the region a new platform to showcase their talents.” 

Boulder County was founded in 2021, and currently competes in USL League Two. The vision for Boulder’s W League program is targeted in four main areas – to develop the women’s game, to create a soccer culture in our community, to provide more playing opportunities for women, and club diversity.  

"Boulder County United Soccer Club is beyond excited for the opportunity to bring a women's pre-professional platform to Boulder and the surrounding Colorado communities,” said Sean Baumann, Boulder County General Manager. “The USL W League will provide an additional step in our women's player pathway which will allow us to extend the support we can provide our players between their collegiate seasons as they pursue professional opportunities. " 

Since 2012, CISA – a 501c3 youth soccer organization – has been devoted to promoting physical health and development among youth in Parker, Aurora, and surrounding areas. We strive to make soccer accessible and affordable for all and proudly represent our girls' program on local, regional, and national levels.  

“Joining the USL W League for the upcoming 2024 season marks a new and exciting chapter for CISA,” said founder and Academy Director Nelson Pinto. “CISA is dedicated to providing progressive programming for elite players and believes that the USL W League presents a critical opportunity to offer continuity in our player development pathway: Youth - College - Pre-Professional. Having joined League Two in 2021, we experienced first-hand the incredible opportunities the USL offers to build a better soccer community in Colorado – and we're excited to extend those opportunities to all female players in the state.” 

Flatirons FC was founded in 2019 and has been competing in League Two ever since. The club’s vision is to create accessibility to the game and inspire players to be role models and make positive impacts in their community through promoting diversity, equity and inclusion through the game of soccer. 

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce our USL W League team,” said Flatirons FC Technical Director Levi Rossi. “Flatirons’ goal is to continue to grow the game and provide opportunities in an inclusive way. This can’t be done without equal opportunity, and we feel strongly that this is an excellent platform to provide women with exactly that. The women’s game is blossoming and we hope to be a leader in providing more female players and coaches the chance to expand as humans, players and leaders.” 

Northern Colorado Rain, who was previously announced this year, will unveil the club’s full brand and crest in the new year.  

Additional clubs may be announced for the Mountain Division prior to the start of the 2024 season.
