Newly Launched SportsEngine Play Streaming Service Adds to its Ever-Growing Menu of League & Team Competition and Training Content for Pre-Professional Athletes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (May 9, 2024) – The newly launched SportsEngine Play streaming service for amateur sports, part of the SportsEngine family of leading youth sports technology brands, will stream all regular season games in 2024 for United Soccer League’s League Two and W League, totaling 1,200 matches, plus playoffs.

As part of its expanded partnership with SportsEngine, the USL has licensed media rights to SportsEngine Play, which will provide all 208 teams in both pre-professional USL leagues with the ability to stream their games on the SportsEngine Play platform, either live or on-demand. Any game not available live due to pre-existing media rights agreements by select teams will still be available on-demand.

Soccer fans can start viewing matches now and can learn more about subscription options at SportsEngine Play. All League Two and W League matches will be free to watch.

“We’re extremely proud to be expanding our relationship with the USL and excited to be showcasing these league matchups on SportsEngine Play where future professional stars will shine for soccer fans across North America,” said Brett MacKinnon, Senior Vice President & General Manager, SportsEngine. “The USL will be a great complement to an already robust menu of team competition, as well as training and development content already found on the platform.”

"Easy access to high-level soccer for fans was essential for us as we sought a streaming partner for 2024," Joel Nash, USL Senior Vice President of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. "I'm happy to say SportsEngine Play delivers that and then some. This platform will allow our fans to truly see the best of what League Two and the W League can offer, and we couldn't be more thrilled to partner with them."

USL League Two and the W League are elite pre-professional leagues operated in Tampa, Fla., by USL, the largest soccer organization in North America. For men, League Two features 128 clubs in four conferences in the United States and Canada and has been a proving ground for future professional players that now compete in top leagues around the world. The W League enters its third season with 80 clubs, developing the next generation of women’s soccer talent in North America. Both leagues compete in a three-month regional regular season from May to July, followed by national playoffs.

A few notable clubs within the W League include Indy Eleven, the 2023 W League Champions, Minnesota Aurora FC, which holds the record for league attendance with a crowd of 6,987 in 2023, and Oakland Soul SC, the 2023 New Organization of the Year. W League standouts now playing professionally include Nádia Gomes (SF Glens), Amy Andrews (South Georgia Tormenta FC), and Jayde Riviere (AFC Ann Arbor).

As part of SportsEngine’s leading youth sports technology brands, SportsEngine Play launched in October 2023 as the first-of-its-kind subscription streaming service for amateur sports, connecting millions of young athletes and their families with the sports they love. The platform provides organizations, leagues and athletes the ability to capture and stream video of sports events on just about any device – from sophisticated AI cameras mounted at sporting venues to personal smartphones, and features editing tools for reel and highlight creation. SportsEngine Play also is constantly adding new competitive content through the acquisition of streaming rights to elite amateur sports that will entertain and inspire young athletes.

In addition to live and on-demand event streaming, SportsEngine Play’s All Access subscription tier offers a growing library of video that provides young athletes and their families with everything they need to know about their sports of choice, from rules and equipment to training and skills to mental health, fitness and more. The plan features exclusive instructional videos from world-class athletes like Michael Phelps, Larry Fitzgerald, Shaun White, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and others, who offer video collections featuring tips and techniques highlighting their training regimens, as well insight on leadership and mental health.

SportsEngine established its partnership with USL in 2018 and launched a new digital network of websites for the league, as well as its teams in 2021. The expanded partnership with USL is another momentous commitment the brand has made to the sport of soccer, including the creation of a cutting-edge digital network for US Youth Soccer in 2023, which has delivered valuable content to its more than 10,000 clubs and leagues, and nearly 1 million administrators, coaches and volunteers.
