No better way to kick off your long weekend than by watching some W League matches. Here are four matchups that are must-sees as we finish up the first month of the season: 

• River Light FC vs Minnesota Aurora FC – Heartland newbies against the reigning champs 

• Miami AC vs Florida Elite Soccer Academy – Can Miami snap FESA’s winning streak? 

• California Storm vs Oakland Soul – two of NorCal’s best 

• South Georgia Tormenta FC vs NC Courage U23 – a rematch of last week’s draw

The Heartland Division’s newest expansion club River Light FC is set to host Minnesota Aurora FC, who have won the division the past two seasons. Both clubs started their seasons with the exact same result: an 8-0 win against the Chicago Dutch Lions. Minnesota has never lost a regular season match, but could River Light come away with the three points on Saturday?

Florida Elite Soccer Academy has come out hot in 2024, starting the season 3-0-0 and outscoring its opponents 20-0. However, Miami AC (1-0-1) has earned four points in its first two matches, most recently earning a 1-1 draw against a strong Tampa Bay United side. Could Miami extinguish Florida Elite fire or will FESA keep burning through the competition?

Inside the very competitive NorCal Division, stand the California Storm and Oakland Soul in second and third place. Each team earned one win against the other last season, and Saturday will be the first of two matchups in 2024. Oakland has looked strong at home but is looking to come away with its first road win of the season.

Last week, the 2022 W League champions South Georgia Tormenta traveled to face NC Courage U23, and each side picked up a point after a 1-1 draw. This weekend, Tormenta will host the Courage in a rematch as both teams fight to climb up the South Atlantic Division standings.
