Virginia Beach, VA & Tampa, FL – The United Soccer League announced today that Virginia Beach United will join the USL W League beginning in the 2025 season. The club previously joined USL League Two in 2019.

Virginia Beach United was founded that year by the heads of two local youth soccer clubs with the mission of providing a path for players to grow and develop skills by training and playing top-level competition. VBU is committed to creating a winning team that also gives back to its community.

“VBU is excited about becoming the first USL W League team in the Coastal Virginia market,” said Matt Mittelstaedt, General Manager. “The City of Virginia Beach has just completed a $7 million renovation of our home stadium, VB Sportsplex. This and our strong men's team will help recruit our exceptional homegrown talent from the market and make us a strong contender for our inaugural season.”

The club is heavily involved in the community by partnering and fundraising with local youth clubs and the Boys and Girls Club to host soccer clinics, as well as volunteering at the Virginia Beach SPCA animal shelter. Diversity and inclusion are also keystones of the club, as VBU has hosted its Pride Night match with the Hampton Roads Pride since 2019.

VBU has a history of developing local talent up to the professional level, most notably on the women’s side with Charlotte Burge. The Virginia Beach native signed with USL Super League club Carolina Ascent last year to become the youngest professional goalkeeper in the United States at 18 years old.

The club will play all its home matches at VB Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, VA, as a member of the Eastern Conference.

“Virginia Beach United has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to growing the game in their community, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the W League,” said Joel Nash, SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “Their expansion to the W League underscores their dedication to providing top-tier opportunities for players to compete and develop, and we’re excited to see the impact they’ll make in this new chapter.”
