The USL Super League is set to kick off its fourth season in May with nearly 500 matches on the schedule this summer. We’ve identified 10 key matchups streaming on SportsEngine Play that you won’t want to miss.
Sunday, May 18, 5 p.m. ET – Southwest Athletic Complex; Seattle, WA
Half of the Northwest Division this season will be expansion clubs with two of them just 30 minutes away from each other. West Seattle Rhodies FC and Salmon Bay FC will kick off their inaugural W League seasons against each other this May.
Both clubs have seen success on their men’s sides with teams in USL League Two, but what’s better than a new WoSo rivalry in the Emerald City?
Tuesday, May 20, 6 p.m. ET – WakeMed Soccer Park; Cary, NC
The 2024 W League champions are back and will open up their 2025 campaign at home against NC Fusion. The Courage started last season with a 1-1 draw and then proceeded to win every single game all the way to the final, scoring 68 total goals.
If we’ve seen anything over the last few years, it’s that the Courage are one of the most consistent and dominant teams in the league. Will NC Fusion be able to spoil the champ’s return?
Saturday, May 24, 7 p.m. ET – Keyworth Stadium; Hamtramck, MI
Detroit City FC will make its home debut against a new inner-city rival, Union FC Macomb. DTFC went undefeated last season and put on a show for the home crowd in each of its three playoff matches.
Union FC Macomb saw success in its first season last year in USL League Two and now looks to make waves in the W League’s Great Lakes Division. Will Union FC be able to hand Detroit City its first regular season home loss since 2023?
Wednesday, May 28, 7 p.m. ET – Mountain View Middle School; Mechanicsburg, PA
Eagle FC and Lancaster Inferno are back in the Mid Atlantic Division together again this season after last year ended in a tight finish. Both clubs had the same record of 10-1-1, but Lancaster’s lone loss was to Eagle in the first match of the season. Eagle won the division title, and Lancaster clinched the Wild Card spot.
Both teams fell in the first round of the playoffs last season, leaving them disappointed considering the past success of both clubs. This first of three matchups between the two will be an exciting start to what will surely be another close race for a playoff berth this summer.
Saturday, May 31, 3 p.m. ET – AutoNation Field @ Nova Southeastern University; Davie, FL
Two more USL Super League clubs have expanded to the W League this season, creating a pre-to-professional pathway right within their own communities. Fort Lauderdale is already seeing great success at the pro level, and Sporting JAX is bringing a lot of excitement to northern Florida.
The entire Southeast Division looks quite different from last year and the title is anyone’s game. FTL UTD vs. Sporting JAX is just one of many Florida matchups we’ll be keeping our eyes on.
Saturday, May 31, 7 p.m. ET – Grand Park; Westfield, IN
These two teams battled all season long last year in three of the most competitive matches in the Valley Division. In Indy’s home opener, the teams played back-and-forth to a 3-3 draw. The former league champions took three points in the second meeting with a 1-0 win and then clinched a playoff berth after their final match against Kings Hammer finished 1-1.
Will Indy be able to pull out another division title or will Kings Hammer take down the champs and have a chance at its first playoff spot?
Saturday, May 31, 7:30 p.m. ET – Greenwood Field @ UNC Asheville; Asheville, NC
Asheville City and Tennessee SC were the two teams that brought the excitement to the South Central Division last season, with both making it to the playoffs. The teams drew 3-3 halfway through the season, and after Tennessee had clinched the division, Asheville City defeated Tennessee 4-1 in the final match to earn the Wild Card spot.
The teams met up again in the Southern Conference Final, where Tennessee advanced after a 1-0 win. Asheville City will surely be out for redemption as the teams return to the site for the first time since the playoffs.
Friday, June 6, 8 p.m. ET – TCO Stadium; Eagan, MN
The Heartland Division got a new South Dakota-based team this season with Sioux Falls City, a team that has seen a lot of on- and off-field success in its three years of existence. Now, Sioux Falls City will have to take on the juggernaut of Minnesota Aurora.
Minnesota is undefeated in the regular season in its three years in the W League and has won three consecutive division titles. This matchup is the first of three meetings between the two sides and the only one at TCO Stadium, so it will definitely be one you won’t want to miss.
Wednesday, June 11, 7 p.m. ET – City Stadium; Richmond, VA
Every seat in City Stadium will likely be filled as Richmond Ivy hosts Annapolis Blues in this Chesapeake matchup. Richmond is just up I-64 and is less than a two-hour commute for the visitors and their fans.
The Ivy narrowly missed out on the playoffs in its inaugural season last year in the Mid-Atlantic Division and will be back for redemption. However, the Blues have seen a lot of success on the men’s side and will produce a competitive women’s team for its first W League season.
Sunday, June 29, 5 p.m. ET – Treasure Island Stadium; San Francisco, CA
These two NorCal rivals have a storied history since they joined the league in 2023. For the last two seasons, they’ve played in the final match of the division to decide playoff implications.
Oakland has won the last two meetings between the teams and has a 3-2 advantage all-time against the Glens, but San Francisco has scored12 goals to Oakland’s 10. Chances are this matchup will be another one for the history books and an incredible regular season finale at the new Treasure Island Stadium.
