Norfolk, VA & Tampa, FL – The United Soccer League announced today that Virginia Atlantic FC will join the USL W League beginning in the 2025 season. The team is built on a foundation of empowerment, community engagement and excellence, and it is dedicated to inspiring the next generation while developing its players and coaches at a high level.
Virginia Atlantic FC will serve as the women’s team under the Virginia Beach City FC umbrella, further expanding the club’s impact on the region. Virginia Beach City FC, founded in 2013, has been a leader in the development of high-level soccer in Hampton Roads, and this expansion strengthens its commitment to growing the game at all levels.
“We are excited to continue building a platform where women’s soccer thrives, where dreams take flight, and where our community comes through soccer,” said Steven Wagoner, Club President and Founder. “We want to create opportunities, inspire future generations, and leave a legacy both on and off the field.”
The club is heavily involved in the community through clinics, food drives and other volunteer activities. Inclusion and representation is a cornerstone of the organization, seen through its financial aid scholarship program and annual workshops on cultural competence and anti-bias training for players, staff and families.
Virginia Atlantic FC will play its home matches at Powhatan Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia, as a member of the Chesapeake Division.
“We are thrilled to welcome Virginia Atlantic FC to the W League,” said Joel Nash, SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “Their commitment to empowering women through soccer and creating opportunities for growth both on and off the field is truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see the impact the club will make on their community.”
