We're one month into the 2025 W League season, and we've seen broken records, wild upsets and U.S. National Teams x W League crossover on the senior and youth levels. Let's check out some storylines from across the league.

Star-Spangled Visits and Victory

Minnesota Aurora FC paid a visit to the U.S. Women’s National Team training while they were in town for their friendly against China on May 31 at Allianz Field. It was an amazing weekend for both teams as the USWNT dominated with 3-0 victory, and Minnesota Aurora continued its winning streak, leading the Heartland Division with a 4-0-0 record.

Record-Breaking Home Opener

Annapolis Blues FC set a record attendance at its home opener on May 31 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium with 7,289 people in attendance for the Blues’ third victory of the season. Towson University midfielder Sophie Thibeault scored the game-winner in the 76th minute to earn the 1-0 win against Richmond Ivy SC.

The Courage is cruising

The 2024 W League title winners NC Courage U23 remain undefeated at the top of the South Atlantic Division with a 4-0-0 record, including a victory against 2022 champion South Georgia Tormenta FC. The 2024 Final MVP Macey Bader and All-League First Team players Kayleigh Herr and Ivy Garner returned to the squad this season, and W League alums Grace Ivey and Lia Howard joined the Courage this summer.

California Dreaming

California expansion clubs San Juan SC and Capo FC are having incredible starts to their inaugural seasons in the W League. San Juan SC leads the Nor Cal Division with a 4-0-1 record following a 5-1 win over Olympic Club, and Capo FC leads the SoCal Division with a five-game winning streak.

Top of the Mountain

Utah United, the only Utah-based team in the league this year, is shining in its inaugural season so far. The club leads the Mountain Division with a 4-0-0 record and 25 goals scored so far this season, most recently taking down last year’s runner-up Colorado Storm 4-1 on Saturday.

Answering the call

Six current and former W League players were called up to the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team for the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship in Costa Rica. FC Buffalo’s Linda Ullmark recorded two goals and two assists to help the squad win all three group stage matches to advance to the semifinal against Canada on June 6.
