Burlington, VT & Tampa, FL - Vermont Green FC has announced that the club’s women’s team will compete in USL W League as a founding member of the league’s Northeast Division.

Vermont Green’s participation in the 2026 W League season is contingent on the formation of the new division, which will feature at least five clubs including the Green, W League veterans AC Connecticut, and expansion side Hartford Athletic.

The Northeast Division needs a minimum of five clubs to officially form. Vermont Green is the third to commit as a founding member of the division.

“We are delighted to make the next step in the growth of our club—specifically our women’s program—by committing to the USL W League,” said Adam Pfeifer, Vermont Green FC Sporting Director. “Vermont has proven time and time again that it has one of the country’s most passionate and dedicated soccer communities. Expanding into the nation’s top pre-professional women’s league is a big moment for the club and a big statement for soccer in this state. We look forward to competing right out of the gate in the W League.”

Vermont Green FC has fielded teams for three Women’s Exhibition Matches over the last two seasons under the guidance of US Women’s National Team legend and 2019 World Cup winner Sam Mewis. The Green won all three matches in front of sold out crowds at Virtue Field.

“We’ve seen amazing enthusiasm over the last two summers, not only from the fans, but also from some of the nation’s top players in their desire to play here in Vermont,” said Mewis.

"We’re proud to welcome Vermont Green to the W League," said Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. "From day one, their leadership has been intentional about building a women's team and the community has already shown their support by selling out Virtue Field. With world class leadership and a brand that already resonates far beyond the pitch, The Green are a fantastic addition to the league.”

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for soccer in Vermont and in the region,” said Vermont Green FC cofounder Patrick Infurna. “New England specifically has earned a well-deserved spotlight across all levels of the game, and for its vibrant fan culture. We’re hopeful and confident that more of the area’s top clubs will join what will be a highly competitive and fervently-supported Northeast Division.”

Ticket and schedule information for the prospective 2026 USL W League Northeast Division will come in early 2026. Vermont Green FC’s Women’s and Men’s teams will have separate season tickets.
