More than two dozen USL W League players will compete in the NCAA DI Women’s College Cup this weekend at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Florida State will take on Texas Christian in the first semifinal match on Friday at 6 p.m. ET, with Stanford and Duke facing off at 8:45 p.m. ET. The winners will battle it out in the National Championship at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, December 8.
No. 2-seed TCU is headed to the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history after knocking out the defending champions, the UNC Tar Heels, in the Third Round, followed by a 2-1 win over SEC champion Vanderbilt in the Quarterfinals. Leading the Horned Frogs from between the posts is Sporting JAX goalkeeper and reigning W League Golden Glove winner Olivia Geller, who has made 20 saves across the tournament. Last season’s Player of the Year, Utah United’s Seven Castain leads TCU’s attack with five goals throughout the tournament.
Second-seeded Duke returns to the College Cup for its sixth overall and second-consecutive appearance. NC Courage U23’s Mia Minestrella has found the back of the net six times during the tournament, including scoring a hat trick in Duke’s 3-0 victory over Elon in the opening match. Another Courage alum, Mia Oliaro, and San Francisco Glens defender Jocelyn Travers, have each recorded two assists in the tournament. The Blue Devils remain as the only team in the tournament to not allow a goal.
Top-seeded Stanford returns for a third-consecutive run in the College Cup, marking its 13th appearance in program history. The Cardinal have scored 21 goals in the tournament, led by SF Glens striker Andrea Kitahata with four goals and three assists and Oakland Soul’s Charlotte Kohler with three goals and six assists.
No. 3 seed Florida State is the most tenured team in the Final Four, making its fifteenth College Cup appearance, the second-most all-time and fifth in the last six years, in search of its fifth championship. Richmond Ivy forward Kameron Simmonds logged over 220 minutes and three shot attempts for the Seminoles in the tournament.
